Family, Friend, and Neighbor Care (FFN)

Family, friend, and neighbor care is home-based childcare—in the caregiver’s or child’s home—provided by relatives, friends, neighbors, or nannies/babysitters who are unlicensed. Exempt, providers can only care for one family at a time in addition to their own.

Recreation Programs/Camps

Recreation (Rec) Programs or Camps care for children in groups. California does not require that recreation programs or camps be licensed. This type of care is generally used for school-age children for short periods of time (e.g., summer care, holiday care, before and after school).
